Furnace Installation & Replacement on the Upper Eastern Shore
Furnaces on the upper Shore work hard through damp, cold winters, and most are ready for retirement somewhere between fifteen and twenty years. When yours gets there, the difference between a good install and a bad one is comfort, safety, and hundreds of dollars a year in fuel.
KelAire installs gas, propane, and electric furnaces sized to the actual house, vented correctly, and left clean. Multiple clients have had us replace systems at more than one property, which says everything about how the first job went.

The Furnace Replacement Guide for Shore Homes
When replacement genuinely beats repair
Furnaces on this part of the Shore commonly last fifteen to twenty five years, with oil units and well-maintained gas units at the long end. Replacement earns a serious look when a heat exchanger cracks (that is a safety retirement, not a judgment call), when a major component fails after year fifteen, when repair bills start arriving annually, or when a propane or oil bill has grown painful enough that modern efficiency or a dual fuel setup changes the household math. Short of those, a good furnace with a real problem usually deserves a repair, and we will tell you which side of the line yours is on.
Efficiency, fuel, and the dual fuel option
A modern 96 percent AFUE gas furnace turns 96 cents of every fuel dollar into heat in the house, against roughly 80 cents for the older equipment we typically remove and sometimes far less for aging oil units. On propane, where fuel is expensive, that difference compounds fast. Which is why we often talk about a third path: dual fuel, pairing a heat pump with a gas or propane furnace. The heat pump handles the many mild days of a Maryland winter at electric rates, and the furnace takes over automatically for the cold snaps. For a lot of propane households around here, it is the configuration with the lowest total bill.
Installation quality is the product
Two identical furnaces can perform completely differently depending on the install. The details that matter: sheet metal transitions actually fitted to your plenum rather than mashed to fit, gas pressure set with a manometer, temperature rise measured and brought inside the rating plate range, venting done in the correct material at the correct slope, condensate handled properly on high-efficiency units, and a combustion analysis run before we call it done. Our photos on this page are real KelAire installs, and the fabricated plenums and clean venting in them are the standard, not the highlight reel.
